Lads and Lasses ... have a read of this report, very interesting

www.maib.gov.uk/cms_resources.cfm?file=/...ReportNo25-2013_.pdf

The section I find extremely interesting is this snippet on Risk Assessment

Risk control

Recreational divers are effectively passengers while embarked in dive workboats. The transition from passenger to diver occurs at the point of entry into the water. The skipper has no direct authority over a recreational diver in the water. The (*) MCAs regulations relating to the safety of passengers in small vessels clearly set out the requirement for handrails and non-slip decks. However, the regulations are general in nature and do not take into account any additional, specific, requirements that might be needed to meet the needs of a fully-dressed diver.

(*) Maritime and Coastguard Agencys (MCA) Marine Guidance
Notice 280 Code of Practice for Small Vessels in Commercial use for Sport or Pleasure, Workboats or Pilot Boats (MGN 280). J

How would I check this out ... do we have such rules here given we now work under the new international guidelines ???

Baz,
I reckon your first enquiry would be through Waterways and AMSA for any relevant regs, then Australian Standards and your insurance company, to see what they are happy with. I have not heard we are under international guidelines, and it would be folly as the conditions and procedures around the world vary significantly. We are now under national guidelines for commercial operations which is hard enough! (Still haven't made any sense of the requirement to do security training!)

Hi Alan ... I believe that AMSA are slowly converting Oz over to international stds. etc. Certifications are now universal out here and survey requirements are falling in line with international requirements. Hopefully we will all be working under the same rules in the near future.
