G'day All,

I've had a couple of dramas with my second stage main recently. I clean them quite thoroughly, but they actually managed to seize up on me at one point and I had to have them disassembled and cleaned. After that they seem to be working okay, and I went diving with them today and had no issue. When I just got home and washed them out, I noticed they seem to be leaking the tiniest amount of air. When I say tiny, I'm talking a stream of little bubbles; have a look at the vid below to see what I mean...

Now, what I don't know is whether this is something that I need be worried about? I have had these things serviced twice within about 20-30 dives so I'm not that keen to shell out more yet again if I don't need to. Does anyone know if perhaps you can adjust Cyklons to stop a little leak like this, or is it a sign of wear/damage that could be the precursor to an impending issue?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Tom

Tom ... did you buy them secondhand ???

Yes they can be adjusted but I would say that the 2nd stage seat is shot and will need replacing soon'ish.

The joys of owning a Poseidon ... regards Baz

Tom,
Welcome to the joys of owning a Poseidon Cyklon. Owners either swear by them or swear at them!!
I had two cyklons way back, and although they breathed beautifully when they were working, they required constant tweaking.... and, as you have found, they tend to leak.

The leak you show on your video is sufficient to cause me concern. If the regulator is in good order, it should not leak.
A seat replacement is the usual fix, but I would be looking at different brands of regulator to solve the problem.

Regards,
Stan

Mate ... I second Stan's comment - if you can piss them off, there over 30 year old technology that has had its day.

G'day guys,

Thanks for the replies.

Bazza, I did buy them second-hand. I got them for a bloody steal though. $110 AUD for the regs, and a Zeagle BC - both in very good condition. So, I guess if I wanted to offload them and buy something more modern it's not going to be a financial loss at least ;)

The weird thing about that leak is that when I put them on the tank the next morning after they had dried out, I couldn't replicate it... Maybe that's to be expected, but it seemed odd. In my limited knowledge I'd say it's got to be wear and tear on the seat, because I'm sure the tech who serviced them wold have set the pressure correctly (he's worked with Poseidon a lot before). I guess I will take them on the trip I have coming up and see how they go. I can always just hire some regs if the leaks does get any worse.

Maybe I'll start doing some research into a replacement...
