Whisky Bay

Location: Wilsons Promontory
State: VIC
Diver Qualification: Open Water
Average Depth: 8mtrs
Max Depth: 12mtrs
Average Visibility: 50mtrs
Access Type: BOAT/SHORE
Directions: Wilsons prom is a good two and a half hours from Melbourne and there are limited dive shops among the local towns, so go prepared or join a dive charter. That said, it is utterly worth it - the diving here is superb.

The wall itself is a long walk from the car park, but again just keep reminding yourself that you'll be diving in pure glass and that anything that aint nailed down is for the taking in this part of the park (I asked the rangers - spear fishing, crays, abalone, etc all allowed on this beach - subject to usual state rules).

Whisky Bay car park is about 5-10 km out from Tidal River. Go with a buddy, if only to have someone else to help carry the gear...
Description: Great big long rock wall running for about 300 to 500m out from shore. The water is absolutely crystal, the visibility is beyond anything I have ever seen before - like diving in a semi-chlorinated fresh water pool, except with sand on the bottom, a massive rock wall on your left and more fish than you'd think possible.

Wrasse, trevally, stingrays, mullet, schnapper, abalone, crayfish, kelp forrests, nudibranchs, sea dragons, blackfish, zebra fish, port jackson sharks, whiting - hey, buy a fish book and pick the one that ISN'T there... Minimal current, maximum enjoyment and once your air runs out you can snorkel

Just save some energy for the 2km walk up a cliff back to your car...
